The Mandala is designed to guide those who desire enlightenment by purifying and curing the mind, transforming an ordinary mind into an enlightened one.

The mandala is a circle with many intricate figures representing the universe in the eyes of an enlightened person. The mandala is an important aspect of most Buddhism traditions, considered as a palace to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that, more than 2,500 years ago, Shakyamuni Buddha introduced in his teachings through the form of mantras.

Mandala comes from Sanskrit, meaning circle, center, unity and integrity. The root of the word “manda” is fundamentally pure and “la” is contain. Thus the meaning of the Mandala is a drawing that can contain the most sacred things of life.

According to the personal version of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama (from Namgyal Monastery), Buddhists believe that simply worshiping the Mandala is enough to transform the individual’s flow of consciousness through a strong impression of the holistic beauty of the Buddha’s mind is manifested in the Mandala. As a result, the worshiper can have greater awakened compassion, and a better sense of the state of perfection.
